Browser requirements for viewing portable displays

Hi.

I am trying to use a 32 Windows 7 PC as a web client for FactoryStudio Portable displays. I’ve installed latest available 32 bit Edge, but it doesn’t seem to work. Is a 64 bit browser required for Portable displays? Is there a browser setting needing to be changed for this to work?

When I try to open the landing page I just get this ….

Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Greg,

To better understand what is happening, could you please check the browser developer console for any errors?

  1. Press F12 in the browser.

  2. Go to the Console tab and let us know if any errors are displayed (a screenshot would be perfect).

Also, could you please confirm whether this behavior happens only in Microsoft Edge? If possible, please try using another browser (for example, Google Chrome) and let us know if it works properly there.

Hi Michael.

Following your advice I can now see that the 32 bit browsers don’t support WASM SIMD .. whatever that is  From what I’ve included below .. I assume this means that current 32 bit browsers aren’t up to the task. If I need to use 64 bit Win 10 .. or even Win 7 it will be a bit of a pain .. but can probably be managed with some hardware shuffling and OS re-installs

This is from 32 bit Chrome.

… and this from 32 bit Supermium …

.. and this from Edge…

Any other advice you may have will be appreciated.

Hi Greg,

The reason is that the system uses modern technologies based on WebAssembly (.NET 8 / Blazor), which depend on browser and operating system features that are no longer available in Windows 7, such as modern processing extensions (WASM SIMD).
Even when using alternative browsers or newer Chromium-based versions, these limitations remain, as they are related to the operating system itself.

For this reason, it is unfortunately not possible to guarantee the correct operation of the application in Windows 7 environments.

For full and secure use of the system, we recommend upgrading to a more recent version of Windows, such as Windows 10 or later, where all required features are officially supported.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael/Isabela.

Thanks for clarifying the HTML5 requirements. We will certainly be gradually moving all of our embedded installations to Win10 or later over time, but we currently have a large installed base of machines which either are not capable or not suitable for Win10 .. and this will clearly take some time.

In the interim we may configure capable machines with Win7x64 Pro which I have found currently appears to operate adequately for our initial need.

Thanks again.
